Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA)

Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) is a 3- 4 years under-graduate degree which can be pursued either for full-time graduate course or part-time graduate course. This course is also known as BVA Bachelor of Visual Arts. The degree is for students seeking a professional education in the visual or performing arts. Visual works of Arts can be in the form of painting, sculpture, dance, theatre, architecture, photography, etc. This course leans towards creativity and aesthetic aspect of arts.

Eligibility: Candidates who have passed 10+2 or Higher Secondary School Examination from a recognized board of education are eligible for admission to this course. Although there is no other set criteria but certain universities give preference to students who have studied arts in Higher Secondary and possess some knowledge of Visual and Performance Arts.

Admission Process: Admission forms for the BFA course are generally available along with other undergraduate courses’ application forms in the month of May. Mostly the admission is merit based and universities declare a common cut off list for admission to the program. Though there are no entrance tests for this course but a few institutes may conduct these. Some fine arts institutes carry out Aptitude test and based on that, admission process is carried out. Some of the popular B.F.A Entrance exams in India are:

  • B.H.U BFA Entrance Examination conducted by Banaras Hindu University
  • Delhi University entrance exam conducted by Delhi University
  • JNAFAU Entrance Exam conducted by Jawaharlal Nehru Architecture and Fine Arts University

Some universities offer admissions after 2nd year. If a student posseses 1 year certificate course in Fine Arts or 2 year diploma in Fine Arts they are eligible for admission to the 3rd semester of the program.

Graduates can join creative departments of magazines, advertising agencies, and newspapers in the publishing or the textile industry. They can also apply for mainstream graduate employment and training in a broad range of industries, for example, banking, art gallery, insurance, media and public relations.
